Why do we like horror movies?
Book Design | Print
Tool: InDesign
For this project, I designed a printed book inspired by the article “Why Do We Like Horror Movies?” by Monica Jimenez, featuring commentary by film scholar Malcolm Turvey. The book explores psychological and cultural reasons behind our fascination with horror. I focused on translating the emotional tension of horror into visual form through typography, layout, and pacing. I used dark tones, expressive type, and considered use of white space to guide the reader through the article’s key points and tone shifts. The design balances eerie atmosphere with legibility, aiming to echo the unsettling yet compelling nature of horror cinema. The final book was produced through multiple layout drafts and critiques, with attention to print production standards like margin alignment, text hierarchy, and spread consistency.
